Expanded Introduction
Our speaker today is a gerontological nurse practitioner
who is known to non-profit organizations, corporate
America and individuals as the "ElderCare Educator." Retired from teaching nursing after 30 years,
she was a caregiver herself, looking after her parents and spouse for a
number of years. Since retiring from full-time
work, she has taught part-time at California State University at
Fullerton in their Geriatric Care Manager’s curriculum. She is now a
guest speaker for their Nursing Program’s Master Degree curriculum.
Our speaker has experience with both Home Health Nursing and Nursing Case
Management. She has been a medical case manager for a health insurance
company and helped initiate a Linkages Program in Orange County, a
state-wide program designed to provide community resources for dependent
adults to help them remain in the community in their homes. The
ElderCare Educator
volunteers for the Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program (HICAP),
the California State Health Insurance Assistance Program for Medicare
beneficiaries, and has done this for more than ten years in senior
centers, telephone counseling, health fairs, and community forums. She
also presents community education programs for Orange County’s Office on
Aging and the Council On Aging – Orange County. Our speaker is certified
by the National Family Care Givers Association to present their seminar,
“Communicating Effectively with Health Care Professionals”, the Bringing
Elder Care Home, L.L.C., by John Paul Marosy’s, “Elder Care and Work:
Finding the Balance” seminar, and Lifetapes Communications, Inc.’s,
“Aging Parents: The Seminar”, which is endorsed by many national
organizations.
From time to time, our speaker presents community education programs
using her knowledge and experience for adult caregivers who want to
anticipate and avoid the conflicts as their loved ones grow older and
balance elder care in their family and work life. She also speaks to
companies that want to increase productivity and reduce absenteeism by
improving their communications and understanding of elder care issues
for their employees and manage generational diversity in today’s
workplace. You're in for an interesting and informative evening.
Please help me welcome America's ElderCare Educator, Blanche Katz.
